Installer options
| macOS and Linux | Windows | What it does |
|---|---|---|
--tor | -Tor | Downloads Tor (about 20 MB, checked against a pinned hash) for Tor tabs. Tor only runs while Xiao is open. |
--search | Not available | Installs Xiao Search, a SearXNG of your own on this computer, and makes it the start page's search. It runs only while Xiao is open. Needs uv or Python 3.10 or newer. |
--strict | -Strict | Adds fingerprinting resistance, DNS over HTTPS only, and clears cookies when you quit. Some sites behave differently. |
--uninstall | -Uninstall | Removes Xiao's copy of Zen, its profile, Tor, Xiao Search and the launcher. Zen stays. |
Coming from Xiao 0.1
Run the new installer with the options you want. It replaces 0.1's extension with Xiao's built-in code and removes the uBlock Origin it may have added. On macOS the app becomes Xiao.app. Your profile, bookmarks and Tor tabs stay. The start page's links and settings start fresh.
Builds from source
Full Xiao builds from Zen's source are set up in the repository's fork folderand its build workflow; none has been compiled yet.
