Each one is off until you turn it on. The big ones download only then. Turning one off stops it; Remove download deletes its files.
Xiao connects to nothing by itself: only the pages and downloads you ask for. No update checks, new filters, phishing or certificate lists, and Tor and Xiao Search stay stopped. The cost: those lists go out of date, so newly known bad sites and revoked certificates stop being caught, and security fixes wait until you ask for them. Restart Xiao for all of it to apply.

Silent mode won't fetch Widevine, which sites like Netflix need, until you press this.
When Xiao starts, at most once a day, it looks for a new version on GitHub, checks it is really from Xiao, and installs it at the next start. Silent mode turns this off.

Adds noise to what sites can measure about this browser, different on each site and after each restart, so a measurement can't follow you. On by default; a site that misbehaves can be switched off from Xiao's button. Test my privacy with the EFF's Cover Your Tracks.
Choose sites from Xiao's button that see a blank picture instead of your camera, without it ever turning on.
Your downloads, the folders you choose, notes and saved tabs in one searchable place, with tidier file names you can undo. It runs OpenFinder (GPL-3.0) and looks only at what you give it.
Each finished download, with the name it came with and the site it came from. Not downloads from private windows or Tor tabs.
Archived tabs close and wait in the Library for 30 days, with their space and container, until you open them again. Never the tab on screen, pinned tabs, Essentials, tabs playing sound, sharing your camera or screen, or with unsaved work; never private or Tor tabs.
A small square note from its own button in the toolbar.

Ask about the page you are on, summarise a link, and get file name ideas in the Library, written by AI on this computer (MiniCPM5, the same download as below). Only the page or link you choose is read; private windows and Tor tabs never are. Tidy tab titles and grouping tabs by site work without it, from the command bar.
Speak, and AI on this computer (Whisper and MiniCPM5) sorts what you said and your sticky notes into a board.
Convert images, video, audio and documents on this computer, with convert (GPL-2.0).
Pages per sheet, booklets, page numbers, crop, details, passwords and attachments. Firefox's own viewer already highlights, signs and reorders pages.
Send a note straight to a phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi, paired by scanning a code, with no server in between. Open it from Xiao's button.
Improve, shorten, summarise or fix a note with the local AI, undoable. Needs Assist on, with its download.
Keeps the last 50 things you copied from pages in Xiao, on this computer. Never password fields, private windows or Tor tabs. Turning it off deletes the list.
Read EPUB and PDF books from this computer, one or two pages at a time, with nothing uploaded. !ol searches Open Library for more.

A link you open from another app gets a small window of its own, kept apart from your spaces. To keep it, use "Move tabs to" on the window's space name. Links that match one of your space routing rules still go to that space; Zen's default space for links from other apps is replaced by the quick window.
Gather links, quotes and notes into topics. "Add to Board" in a page's menu adds the link, the page or the selected words; open your boards from Xiao's button. Each board is a sticky note, so it syncs like one.
Type !gh cats or cats !gh in the address bar or here to go straight to that site's search. Thousands of sites work, from a list kept on this computer, so no search engine sees it. !note opens your notes and !lib the Library. Add your own in Edit start page.
